Headed over to the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum to Style Fashion Week, which always gives a great show. The location was a fantastic idea for a fashion show, as you got to walk through the museum and see some cool sites before heading over to the show and viewing some great fashion on beautiful models. The place was packed with all sorts of media and fashion alike as they made new friends, networked, grabbed a drink, or took some selfies at the cool selfie booth. Once the lights dimmed and the show was announced to start, everyone took their seats and crowded around for an exciting runway show.
So this Saturday I made it out to Fort Greene Park for the festival they have going on each year. It was my first time attending, so I didn’t know what to expect, but as I got there the smells, sights, and sounds all hit me at once. I was starving so of course the smells hit me first. There were food vendors from all the local restaurants circling the crowd area, serving all kinds of dishes. After I fed my belly, it was on to the show. When I got there the place had a lot of people, but it wasn’t too packed, making it easy for me to navigate through the crowd and find a good position in front to take pictures. Mos Def was headlining the show, meaning he would be the last to perform, but that wasn’t so bad an experience with all the performances they had. The music was great as there was a mix of Hip Hop, R&B, Rock, & Soul. I think my fav was Game Rebellion, who killed their performance and had the folks even crowd surfing. Between the performances, the dance competition Rosie Perez had going, and the surprise performance from beatboxing legend Rahzel, the crowd was well warmed up by the time Mighty Mos came out. He came out and the crowd went crazy as the Brooklyn native ran through song after song. A special moment came when Mos Def’s mom came out, handing out flowers to the audience. It was a great event.
